Doug will share  the history and significance of the Pine Hawk archaeological site in South Acton.  Acton's most important archaeological discovery, the site was surveyed prior to the construction of  Acton's wastewater treatment plant on Adams Street while Halley was the Health Director of the town.   • Acton’sTrails Challenge

    “I Hiked Acton’s Trails!”  Walk the trails in Acton’s conservation areas with the goal of earning a sticker and a sew-on patch! These weekly walks are a joint effort between Acton Conservation Trust and Acton Conservation Division. We’ll walk a different conservation area weekly. Check out the “I Hiked Acton’s Trails” Challenge form HERE for more information about the challenge. Date: Wednesdays from September 3 to November 19. Once you register, the location of each hike will be sent out each Sunday before the walk. Time: 2:30-4:00 pm. Plan to arrive a few minutes early as we will start our hikes on time.     Tour leader Amy Cole grew up near Acton Center and knows the Town well. She has a wide ranging-interest in Acton’s unique history. Walking Acton’s historic civic center, you will learn about the people, places and practices that shaped the town’s history and our nation’s as well. Topics include Native American history, the role of the church, the importance of Captain Isaac Davis and the Acton Minutemen, nearby historic buildings, memorials and more.     Join Cheryl Stedtler, founder and director of Project Mishoon, for an immersive journey into underwater archaeology, Indigenous heritage, and 1640s canoe discoveries that are reshaping New England’s historical narrative. History emerges from beneath the surface. Cheryl is an enrolled citizen of the Hassanamisco Nipmuc Band, where she serves on the Tribal Council. With a background in microbiology and clinical trials project management, Cheryl blends a systems-oriented approach with traditional knowledge. She is also an editor for Dawnland Voices: An Anthology of Writing from Indigenous New England.     Bakers! Start your ovens! Oct 11th is the drop off date for our 2025 Apple Pie (neighborly) competition. Sign up at the link - Just 20 places in 2 age categories; Apple Pie Baker's Sign Up. For bakers only, on Saturday, October 11, pies must be delivered to the library between noon-2pm for judging. For bakers and the public, come to the library on Sunday, October 12 at 2pm to celebrate the winners and get a slice (or two) of delicious pie, a donut, or a glass of cider! After all, there's no such thing as a bad apple pie!
